The first cup of Tim Horton’s coffee will be poured at the new Oyster Bay location on Thursday morning.

The 1,000 sq-ft drive-thru and walk-up counter at the Esso gas station is the latest commercial offering in the Coast Salish development.

Franchise owner Dave Milne said the Tim Horton’s is built for a double order station that could open in the future.

“We have a lot of confidence that the volume here will grow because of the proximity of the highway and having Esso as a partner along with the Coast Salish Development Corporation,” he said.

The Oyster Bay site offers a few unique advantages compared to the Ladysmith store, which is also owned by Milne.

“We don’t have height restriction on our drive-thru so the bigger trucks, weekend warriors with bicyles and kayaks on top can now get through where as in Ladysmith they can’t,” he said, noting there’s also parking for RVs.

The store will employ about 15 people and many will be members of the Stz’uminus First Nation.
