Surrounded by family, friends and supporters of his goal of raising thousands of dollars for children stricken by cancer, Ladysmith’s Carter Puska cut off 14 inches of hair that’s being donated to Wigs for Kids BC at his 10th birthday party last Friday.

Carter has successfully raised $5,133 since April 1 and is looking to reach $5,500, which would place him in the top five for individual fundraisers for Wigs for Kids BC - a partnership of the BC Children’s Hospital.

The North Oyster Public School student has been growing his hair for the past 2.5 years.

Four people cut off his four ponytails, including John and Travis from Little Valley Restorations who were the highest pledgers at $500.

Carter’s grandpa Ted was the second highest with $260 and GNB Builders were the 3rd highest with $250 so their daughter and Carter’s classmate, Brooklyn Bianchini cut off the final ponytail.

Mom Pam Puska was also inspired by her son’s effort and decided she was also going to cut off two ponytails.
