Celtic musicians, dancers set to perform in town

The Islands’ Celtic Festival is returning to Ladysmith this weekend with workshops and plenty of entertainment in the form of jigs, slip jigs, slides, hornpipes, reels and aires.

The Islands’ Celtic Festival is returning to Ladysmith this weekend with workshops and plenty of entertainment in the form of jigs, slip jigs, slides, hornpipes, reels and aires.

On Friday night there will be a Big Session from 6-11 p.m. in the Eagles’ Hall.

All day Saturday in the Eagles’ Hall workshops will be offered starting at 10 a.m with an informal concert at noon, during the lunch break.

On Saturday night, a concert will be held in the Aggie Hall from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Organizers are planning to have six acts for the concert, including: an Irish band, Scottish band, Celtic harpist, Gaelic singing group, Irish/Scottish solo singers, and some other combination of Celtic musicians. Celtic Dancers will give a performance after the concert, and before the Ceili dance.

Performers at the Aggie Hall concert include the likes of Terry Boyle (Ladysmith), Sandy Jasper (Ladysmith), Alison Vardy (Cedar), Gareth Harwood (Victoria), Good Pollock (Duncan), Gary and Nora Burman (Oregon), Phillip and Ruth (Washington State), and Kari-Ann and Dancers (Vancouver), Tickets will be available at the door at 6 pm, and from Salamanders Books.

Adult tickets for that event are $20, and $10 for students. They are available at the door at 6 p.m. or from Salamander Books.

On Sunday morning, the profits from the event will be distributed to the performers and workshop leaders.

Organizers are thanking Ladysmith &District Credit Union, Bayview Framing &Art, Pharmasave, In the BeanTime Cafe, Roberts Street Pizza and Tim Hortons for financial support to help put on the festival.
