The driver of a vehicle that smashed through a cement barricade at a turnoff from the Trans-Canada Highway north of Ladysmith on Friday was later found walking at the side of the road mildly disoriented, according to RCMP.

The single vehicle collision involving a Kia Sportage occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Brenton Page Road.

North Oyster Fire Department responded to the scene and later asked for assistance from Ladysmith RCMP after the driver was nowhere in sight.

The vehicle came to rest on the edge of a steep embankment with the driver’s side door wedged against a barricade.

Police caught up with the man who was walking along the Trans-Canada Highway talking about how he was late for work.

It’s unclear if the driver will be charged with not remaining at the scene of the accident.
