Local RCMP are investigating after a fire was set in a boy’s washroom at Ladysmith Secondary School on Wednesday morning.
Ladysmith Fire Rescue received the call at around 8 a.m. for a fire in the upstairs washroom.
A LSS staff member in the mean time grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the blaze that was set inside a garbage bin.
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation but are doing OK, Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District spokesperson Dale Burgos confirmed to the Chronicle.
“The small fire is being investigated,” Burgos said, noting there was no major damage.
“Staff will be working tonight to clean up the bathroom. It should be back to normal tomorrow.”
Ladysmith RCMP were on scene shortly after 9 a.m. and are pursuing criminal charges.
