North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are investigating a suspected arson that took place at McBrides Service Station in Chemainus overnight Tuesday.

Chemainus Fire Rescue and police were called to the business on Chemainus Road near Henry Road just after 1 a.m.

The Chronicle has confirmed that the fence on the McBrides property was cut and a suspect, or suspects, set fire to a Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Const. Amron Russell said that there is an “active investigation” surrounding the incident but could not release further details.

“We can confirm that this complaint has been received at our office and that it is still under investigation,” she said.
