Bruce Thomson Wallace

March 6, 1935 - September 29, 2017

Bruce (Bucky) passed away peacefully in his sleep the evening of Friday, September 29th, 2017.

Predeceased by his daughter Kelly and son Michael Wallace, his first wife Lynn €(nee Allardyce) and second wife Anita (Sorensen), he is survived by his beloved wife Cate Weir, her three children, and his older step-sister Janet Firth in Napa.

He will be forever fondly remembered by the Weir/Crocker and the Sorensen/Smulders extended families, the Wallace cousins, the Allardyce family, many friends and former students.

Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Bruce received his Teaching Diploma and Masters in Physical Education and Science from UBC. He brought his passion for books, music, sport and nature into all of his classrooms and schools as a Teacher and Principal for over 40 years; 37 of which were in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District.

He was an exceptional coach, mentor and role model, influencing many with his charm, sense of humour and acceptance.

He was a skilled outdoorsman: hiker, climber, boater, diver, kayaker, camper, aircraft pilot, hunter and fisherman, and had a love for clearing bush, bucking logs, splitting wood and lighting bonfires.

He also loved reading, raising birds, playing a variety of instruments and singing.

Sincere thanks to Nat Moreau for his friendship and caring support over the past three years.

Thanks also to Drs. Brockley, Potts and MacDonald and deep gratitude to the exceptional staff at Cerwydden Care Home in Duncan for making his last year as good as it could be.

Join us for an informal celebration of his life at the Crow and Gate Pub on Wednesday, Nov. 1st from 2-5 pm.

In tribute to Bruce, honk your horn when you drive by Rob Hutchin's house this month!
