William F. Higgs

May 5, 1938 - Febreuary 20, 2017

Passed away peacefully in compassionate care at The Lodge on Fourth with his loving wife by his side.  Bill will be profoundly missed by his wife, Marilyn Jackson Higgs; his daughter, Dr. Penelope Higgs; his son-in-law, Dr. Stuart Huntley; his grand daughter Storey Huntley; and his step-daughter, Amelia Perkins; as well as the many friends who attended Bill and Marilyn’s Wed. Meditation Nights at their home in Ladysmith.

Born in Stafford, England, Bill graduated from Cannock Chase College of Technology and became Senior Design Engineer at Thron Automation Ltd.  Moving to Canada in 1963, Bill worked in the aerospace industry in Ontario; the high- tech industry at Deskin Electronics in Montreal; the research industries in Vancouver, as well as Robotics Systems International in Sidney where his design for a robotic arm is still on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. D.C.  Leaving Engineering, Bill moved to Sooke BC and created a way to copper plate Vancouver Island leaves, making them into jewellery for a home business and more time to enjoy his life’s passion --- sailing.

Bill will be remembered by us all for his love of reading, for his dry sense of humour and his brilliant and open mind.  He was a constant learner and teacher in all fields and loved the study of Buddhism, meditation, science, the arts, wrote for many publications, and had a deep love of animals, the beauty of nature, and kindness.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.

Sail on, dear one!
