Valentine’s Day was even more special for Moe and Jill Easterbrook thanks to the efforts of two Good Samaritans who ensured the return of a lost wedding band last month.

Moe was stepping out of his vehicle at Coronation Mall in January when he removed his winter gloves and unknowingly his squared shank ring slipped off too.

“It wasn’t until that night, we were going to bed, he looked down and saw that his finger was empty,” said Jill, who stayed up nearly the whole night searching through everything from the garbage to her husband’s truck.

Unsure of the whereabouts of the band, the couple submitted an ad in the Chronicle hoping it might have been found.

Jill was at work on the Wednesday the paper was delivered and soon received a call from Giriraj Rana from the Spice Hut who had found the ring in the mall parking lot.

“Apparently he had taken a picture of the ring and he had posted it on Ladysmith People’s Forum,” she said.

Eliina Alle had also seen the Facebook post and made the connection when she opened the Chronicle and read the lost ad.  She snapped a picture of it and replied to Rana letting him know the likely owner of the ring was Moe Easterbrook.

“I was so appreciative of both of them. Rana’s honesty and Eliina’s kindness in taking the time to respond and link the picture and the lost ad together,” Jill said.

She made sure to return the gratitude with thank you notes and a small reward.

“I’m just so over the moon thrilled that I got my husband’s ring back for him.”

The Easterbrooks have been married for 21 years this upcoming July and are still more in love than ever.

They planned to spend Valentine’s Day having dinner with friends.

“Our life really is a love story and we have a wonderful relationship we really do - my husband is a wonderful man,” Jill said.
