Some of the unsung heroes among local charitable groups are the 100 Women Who Care Mid Island.

The women made their presence felt again in the Ladysmith area this fall when they voted to direct their latest round of charitable giving to the Ladysmith Family and Friends organization.

Meeting quarterly at Vancouver Island University, the 100 Women Who Care Mid Island is an inclusive group of women who care about where they live and their communities. The goal is to make an impact to help improve the efforts of charities in the area. At each one-hour meeting, members discuss three different charities and the work they do in the community. At the end of the presentation, the group votes for one of the three charities, with the one receiving the most votes receiving a $100 cheque from each one of the members.

Founded in 2016 in Ladysmith, the local group has contributed more than $304,000 to local registered charitable organizations.

The group is centred in Ladysmith, Nanaimo, Lantzville, Gabriola Island and communities in between. The theory of the organization is to assist local charities in their work to help make their community better. Women joining agree to write a $100 cheque four times a year to a local charity. Donors receive a tax receipt for their generosity and as a member they can nominate a charity of their choice to be considered.

100 Women Who Care was founded in the United States in 2006 and there are now hundreds of Women Who Care organizations throughout the U.S., Canada, and elsewhere, making a huge impact in their local communities. For information on how to join, visit http://100womenwhocaremidisland.com.
