Be a ‘Hometown Tourist’ June 18 & 19

There’s always something new to discover, or a new perspective to take on something you thought you’d discovered a long time ago.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve lived in Ladysmith, there’s always something new to discover, or a new perspective to take on something you thought you’d discovered a long time ago.

That’s the philosophy behind the Be a Hometown Tourist Weekend June 18 and 19.

“Our community is renowned for its natural beauty, waterfront, friendly people, arts, history and festivals.  We invite all residents and visitors to discover the Central Vancouver Island communities of Ladysmith, Cassidy, Cedar, South Nanaimo, Saltair, Chemainus and Cowichan Valley,” says Cindy Damphousse, who is spearheading the campaign.

“Join us as we launch the fifth annual weekend, offering locals an opportunity to discover some of the special attractions and shops and services in their own hometown.”

Some of the fun activities planned are: harbour boat tours, a historic downtown presentation, two for one specials on kayaking, and golfing.

There will also be extended hours for local attractions, and local restaurants will put together special menu items for the weekend. “Just in time for Father’s Day Sunday,” Damphousse said.

The campaign is modeled on programs that have been successful in many communities, and serves to remind Ladysmith area residents of the wonders in their own backyard.

“On June 18 and 19, grab your camera and get ready to play tourist in your hometown,” Damphousse said.

If you’re a business or tourist attraction, you are invited to join in the celebration.

“We are always looking for more participants for this weekend event,” Damphousse said.

If your organization would like to host an activity or your restaurant would like to create a signature HomeTown dish contact our office 250-245-7015 to be part of the fun.
