The Ladysmith Maritime Society’s Heritage Boat Festival kicked off on Wednesday, July 7, and culminates in a day of festivities on Sunday, July 11 down at Transfer Beach.
LMS has prepared a series of nine heritage videos showcasing various makes and styles of wooden boats, along with interviews, history and restoration stories from the Captains and Owners.
On Sunday, LMS will host a Heritage Boat Parade and Festival at the Ladysmith Community Marina. The event begins with the heritage boat parade leaving the marina and motoring towards Transfer Beach for 10:30 am. Locals and visitors will have the chance to see the restored boats pass by with a local announcer describing the history of each.
Afterwards, everyone will be invited to view the fleet on the docks at the community marina from 12 pm to 4 pm.
The festival will also feature Indigenous dancers, local artists, free harbour tours, and food from the Oyster Bay Cafe.
