Saturday marked the Ladysmith Eagles’ 74th annual Mother’s Day Tea. As in past years, the hall was packed to capacity with community members enjoying entertainment and delicious goodies.

Mother’s Day has always been an important occasion for the Eagles dating back to 1904 when Frank Hering, a past grand aerie president, was pushing for a day set aside to honour mothers. In 1914 the United States proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day and in 1915, Canada followed suit.

According to the Eagles, “mother is the most important word in any language.”
