The Rotary Club of Chemainus presented a cheque for $1,050 to Chemainus Harvest House Food Bank, November's community group benefiting from Rotary's recycling collection efforts.
The club holds a bottle drop off in Chemainus every Saturday to raise funds for Rotary club projects. On the third Saturday of each month, Rotary partners with other community organizations to help run the bottle drop and a portion of funds raised then goes to the partnering community group.
Harvest House aims to feed the hungry and facilitate self-sufficiency of those in need as well as create public awareness around issues of food security in the Chemainus area.
“We are so grateful for the faithful and continued support of organizations like Rotary that we can depend on year round for their contributions," said Harvest House Coordinator Emily Holmes. "Cash donations like this help us to cover not only overhead costs but enable us to purchase things like fresh produce and dairy items at wholesale pricing; allowing us to stretch those dollars as much as possible."
The bottle drop is located at the Chemainus Rotary Club’s bunker across from Subway on Chemainus Road and accepts refundable containers on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
