Last Saturday members of the Ladysmith RCMP detachment, the Ambulance Service and Ladysmith Search and Rescue stepped forward to ‘Cram The Cruiser’ with food items for the Ladysmith Food Bank. Another atmospheric river along with a bomb cyclone didn’t dampen the spirits of Ladysmith RCMP members along with BC Ambulance and Ladysmith Search and Rescue volunteers at the “Cram the Cruiser” event recently.

“The food drive was a positive experience with many community members purchasing prepared food drive bags,” said Constable Chad Fraser, the local co-ordinator of the event. “It was great to be part of and see others showing appreciation in the act of giving food and cash donations to help others these holidays.”

The event, a fundraiser for the Ladysmith Food Bank, not only filled the back of the detachment's Chev Tahoe but also filled up the back seats. Ladysmith Ambulance also had a vehicle present and it was filled up with miscellaneous food and toiletry items.

“The folks at Country Grocer prepared food bags, packed with basics for families, and many customers bought them and handed them over to our volunteers,” Fraser said.

Along with the donated food the event also raised almost $600 in cash.

Fraser said it was great to work with other emergency service agencies on the event.

“It’s not often we get to chat and get to know each other outside of attending various calls for service in our community," he said. "It was an opportunity to strengthen our working relationship and doing something together that we can make a positive impact in a person’s life during the holiday season."

At press time the total weight of food collected was not available.
