Ladysmith Days 2020 has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

Ladysmith Days organizer, Barry Frech made the decision to cancel because he felt the cancellation of the event was inevitable. All Ladysmith Days events, including the Ladysmith Days fireworks spectacular are cancelled.

“We were starting to set it up for Coronation Mall, and we started getting our program ready for Ladysmith Days. When COVID-19 came along I had to cancel everything,” Frech said.

Citizen of the Year will still go ahead, however the in person event has been cancelled. The Citizen of the Year will be posted online, and published in the Chronicle.

Nominations for Citizen of the Year are now open. Anyone who wants to nominate a citizen of the year can submit their nomination letter at ladysmithdays.com/contact.

Frech said that he and the Ladysmith Days planning committee are planning a big celebration for 2021. He hopes to have more events at the main Ladysmith Days locations: downtown, Transfer Beach, and Coronation Mall.

“We’re going to try to have more entertainment. We’re going to try our hardest to make bigger, stronger, and a little bit better,” Frech said.
