The Rotary Club of Duncan has recently provided a grant to Cowichan Valley Youth Services for a new lending library of resources for clients and caregivers.
“The Rotary Club of Duncan is pleased to work with such an important organization in our community,” said Rotary Club president Karen Thorington. "Youth health and education are key priorities for Rotary. It is our hope that this lending library will help fulfill an important need in the region.”
The CVYS Lending Library will offer youth, parents and caregivers the opportunity to borrow books on topics relevant to them and their own personal growth work, including 65 expert-recommended books on topics like mindfulness, mental health, self-help, anxiety management, digital well-being, neuroscience, psychology, parenting, trauma, and more.
Anyone can use the resources.
"Whether members of the broader public or existing CVYS clients, individuals simply provide their name and phone number to the receptionist, and they can get to reading and learning right away," said Zoe Lauckner, CVYS's executive director.
“For clients of CVYS who are working on specific goals within their sessions, our youth and family counsellors can make book recommendations to aid clients in integrating their therapeutic work and deepening their self-discovery.
Soon, CVYS will be turning the Lending Library selection into a digital catalogue so clients can browse currently available options using an iPad in its waiting room.
