Ladysmith's Little Theatre has just announced its Christmas pantomime for 2013- The Old Woman Who Lived In a Shoe.
Family and friends will enjoy the production that tells the fictional story of Mother Goose who makes a giant shoe into a home for orphans.
"This pantomime will get people into the spirit of Christmas," said producer Susan Carthy. "Lots of families and adults fun as it's over-the-top funny and a good time is had by all."
Ladysmith's Little Theatre is a community theatre with the general public making up a lot of the membership.
Every year the artistic director Mort Paul seeks information and feedback from the membership in order to determine which specific pantomimes are put on for the public.
"That's the artistic director's main job," said Carthy. "We've already started planning this year for next and we value the public's input."
Once information and feedback is received, Paul takes the suggestions to the theatre's board who decide on the pantomime lineup for the year.
"We're continuing this year with [playwright] Norman Robbins as we've been really successful with that."
Ann McInulty-Gogo is the director for the show, her first time in that role.
"My role is to develop characters and work with placement on stage," she said. "Ladysmith Little Theatre is a true, volunteer-run theatre. There's no big cheese. Everyone works as a team."
McInulty-Gogo plays a key role in actor instruction and getting the best out of the pantomime's stars.
"I do allow them (the actors) to experiment as they go along. That might be in terms of body posture, an accent, twirling, it's all about experimentation and getting them into character. It's going to be a good show."
Show dates are Dec. 20, 23, 27 and 30 at 7 p.m.
Afternoon shows at 1 p.m. are also taking place Dec. 21, 22, 26, 28 and 29.
Tickets for those shows are $15 and doors open 30 minutes prior to the curtain raising.
There will also be a new year's celebration night, with the show starting at 8:30 p.m.
Appetizers and desserts will follow that night and tickets are $40.
Reservations must be paid at the time time of booking for the new year's eve show.
