The Cowichan Folk Guild is hosting their final Acoustic Chapel Concert before fall on Saturday, May 28, and are bringing in Ryan McMahon from Ladysmith to headline.
McMahon is known as a solo artist, but also as a member of folk/rock band lion bear fox.
McMahon has won three Vancouver Island Music Awards for his solo work including Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.
“Engaging and honest, Ryan McMahon’s music is a blend of alt country, Americana and rock, following the lead of Canadian peers such as Bryan Adams and Sam Roberts,” says a press release for the event. “The singer/songwriter has released six solo albums and brings wit and charm to his live performance.”

In June the Cowichan music scene heats up with a concert by Alfie Zappacosta at Arbutus Ridge Gold Club Satellite Bar and Grille.
On Friday, June 24 this musical legend hits the stage, with Justin Glibbery on keys. An 1980s pop rock star, a press release for his new show says he’s managed to redefine himself and is better than ever with a new album, Saved.
Reviews for the album say this Juno-winning, platinum selling singer/songwriter has maintained his soaring voice on the recording, which incorporates elements of pop, jazz, gospel and rock.

On Saturday, May 28 musician Daniel Wesley hits the stage with Paul Mitchell.

“Recorded with producer John Raham at Afterlife Studios, Beach Music finds Wesley reaffirming his roots, but also expanding on his signature brand of reggae-tinged beach music.”

Imagine That! gallery in downtown Duncan is putting up their new window displays for June.
The first window will feature Michael Dean with Island Impressions.
“Artist Michael Dean captures the history and spirit of Vancouver Island in his realistic impressions of working coastal vessels, forests and beach scenes,” says a press release. “Using both watercolours and oils, Michael’s paintings convey a strong sense of three-dimensional light-filled space, and are known for their finely crafted details.”
The second window will feature William Reynolds with Glass Fusion.
Reynolds works in stained glass.
“He expanded into warm glasswork, and by heating and layering artisan glass he achieves a third dimension to his art, amplifying and reflecting light, bring life to the subject,” says a press release. “Every hand-crafted piece is unique, and most are suitable for indoor or outdoor display.”
