The Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society is hosting the Chemainus Country Music Jamboree at Waterwheel Park on Saturday.

The festival will be followed by a country dance at the Chemainus Legion hall in the evening. For those attending the festival during the day, the cost of the dance is $10; otherwise, tickets are $15. Dance tickets will be available at the music festival all afternoon in the park.

Four of the Island’s top country bands will be on stage in the park, starting at 2 p.m. Admission is by donation, with the CVCAS suggesting $20 as an appropriate amount for the afternoon of top-quality country music.

The bands include Victoria’s favourite country group, County Line. The group’s sound is based around the mix of Megan and Hayden’s contrasting but complementary vocal styles. As artists, the band delivers music with a homegrown approach that country fans appreciate.

Hayden’s edge and energy is the perfect complement to Megan’s sweet but strong personality. Perfecting their craft at more than 500 shows since starting in 2013, their chemistry is not only apparent in the interactions between them - it is what their fans love about the group.

Montgomery County, featuring singer Wayne Montgomery, played to a sold-out show during its last performance in Chemainus. The group consists of outstanding musicians, with the showmanship and vocal abilities of Wayne Montgomery on display.

The show also features Duncan’s Mary Egan with her band, Mary’s Mayhem. The band will perform double duty, entertaining at the festival during the day and playing at the dance in the evening.

Chemainus music fans will also appreciate their own hometown talent, Sweet Potato Brown, with her band. Sweet Potato is the stage name of Chemainus’ own Shelley Brown, who brings her wonderful brand of country styling to the festival.

CVCAS encourages the public to enjoy the jamboree and pick up discounted tickets to the dance upon arrival at the park. Details are at www.chemainuscountrymusic.com.
