Film fest ready to roll in Cowichan Valley

The seventh annual Cowichan Aboriginal Film Festival is coming up.The opening ceremonies kicks off the festival with Tzinqua Dancers, singers, ceremony and the opening of the gallery of artists.The ceremony starts Thursday, April 14 at the Cowichan Theatre, Island Savings Centre in Duncan from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $10.The Coast Salish Gala reception will be held at the Comiaken House on Wednesday, April 13 at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $35.Films will be screened from Friday, April 16 to Sunday, April 17 at the Cowichan Theatre, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 and available at the Cowichan Ticket Centre.To register for a youth workshop, interested filmmakers can phone Cowichan Aboriginal Film Festival at 250-746-7930 or e-mail michelle.staples@cowichan.net.The workshops cover film, acting, stunt and editing. It will be held at the Quw’utsun’ Cultural Centre Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
