Ladysmith's Ryan McMahon has been nominated for five Vancouver Island Music Awards.

Ladysmith singer-songwriter Ryan McMahon leads the list of nominees for the 2012 Vancouver Island Music Awards.

McMahon's name came up five times when the nominees were announced Thursday afternoon.

McMahon is up for Artist of the Year, along with Lindsay Bryan from Victoria, Mike Edel from Victoria, Shane Philip from Courtenay and Lola Parks from Victoria.

McMahon has also been nominated as Male Songwriter of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, and his album All Good Stories (which was produced by Richard Leighton of Lantzville  — a nominee for Producer of the Year) is up for Album of the Year. As well, Ryan McMahon and the Company Damn's video One Way, directed by Tash Baycroft at Red Star Films, has been nominated as Music Video of the Year.

The 51 Vancouver Island Music Award nominees were chosen by 12 music industry professionals, who juried 86 submissions over the course of three days. Find the complete list of nominees here.

The awards will be presented April 21 in Victoria.
