Stz'uminus Sings ready for release

Join the Stz’uminus First Nation for a morning of music, food and cultural preservation.The Hul’qumi’num CD, Stz’uminus Sings, is finally out.“We’re hoping people will come out and join us,” Pearl Harris, Hul’qumi’num manager for the Stz’uminus First Nations said.“We are going to demonstrate Stz’uminus songs,” she said. “Children will sing and the whole community will be there.”The CDs will be sold for $25 and there will be 50 CDs available in a limited-edition hand-woven cedar pouch.“The CDs represent the Stz’uminus people — it is evident of our language,” Harris said. “Hul’qumi’num is  being revived.”She said along with the CDs, there will be music during the whole event.There will also be a feast. Harris said they are focussing on local seafood.The event is at 10 a.m. Friday, April 15 at the Stz’uminus Community Centre on Shell Beach Road.“People who want to learn about our culture should come out,” Harris said. “Come for the enjoyment of listening to our songs.”
