Wikipedia looking for photos of Ladysmith buildings

Photographers can send their photos of historic Ladysmith buildings to the Wiki Loves Monument competition.

Calling all photographers!

Wikipedia is looking for your photographs of historic buildings in Ladysmith.

Until Oct. 1, photographers have an opportunity to enter Wiki Loves Monuments, an international photographic competition to promote historic sites around the world, through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons).

The goal of Wiki Loves Monuments is to encourage people to take pictures of  monuments and put them under a free licence to allow others to access them through the Internet.

Until the end of September, you can upload as many pictures as you want of monuments that you have visited. Pictures don’t have to be taken in September but must be uploaded this month to be considered.

The Wiki Loves Monuments competition is looking for photographs of five heritage buildings in Ladysmith — 530 First Ave., Ladysmith Trading Company at 410 First Ave., the Mainstreet Building at 512 First Ave., the Nicholson Block building at 436 First Ave., and the Traveller’s Hotel at 422 First Ave.

Starting Oct. 1, the contest jury will begin evaluating the photographs, awarding prizes for the best pictures in Canada and ultimately in the world.
