I am writing in regard to the survey taken between December 2023 and January 2024 by the City asking the public their thoughts on the Scramble crosswalk at the corner of Canada Avenue and Ingram Street.
According to the City of Duncan CAO, 78 per cent of respondents were against the Scramble. I have to wonder why our opinion is requested and then ignored by City Council.
I was informed it was for pedestrian safety. Last week I observed a pedestrian walk illegally against the light. He walked in front of moving traffic - that didn't seem too safe to me! Not only was he putting himself at risk but he was taking up the little time vehicles have to get through the intersection.
I personally try to avoid that intersection whether I'm walking or driving.
In the future, if Council is not interested in our opinion, please don't ask.
