The E&N rail line is staring us in the face as a solution to the ongoing Malahat disasters. The rail line could be a vital advancement to the Malahat solution and economic future of Vancouver Island as a transit corridor for commuters, freight and tourism. The line could be upgraded to a modern electrified LRT.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s (MOTI) definition of upgrade must be very different from mine, which is to improve, enhance or make better. Taking a major highway intersection and making prohibitions rather than enhancements is certainly not an upgrade. It is a cheap and easy “solution” which will affect the daily lives of hundreds of Ladysmith residents. This is the best the MOTI has to offer in the year 2021? Where are the innovative, practical, forward-thinking solutions?
