Performs Winter Serenade concert at Oceanview Community Church

The Cowichan Camerata String Orchestra performed its Winter Serenade at Oceanview Community Church on Sunday (Dec. 12.) It is a strings-only orchestra, offering musicians of various ages and abilities an opportunity to gain experience playing in an orchestra and performing in public. It invites anyone interested in joining to connect through email, Facebook or its website for more information.

The program included pieces by Frederick Delius, Fritz Kreisler, J.S. Bach and Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings. Guest harpist Lesley Hartford joined the orchestra for Vaughn William’s “Fantasia on Greensleeves.” Professional violist Chris Redsell, also the orchestra’s musical director, joined special guest accordion musician Elisabeth Jahren to play her arrangement of Bartok’s Romanian Dances. To round out the program, the Camerata performed some instrumental Christmas carols.
