Transit workers in the Cowichan Valley are striking.

Cowichan Valley bus riders, and the community are gathering for a joyous solidarity demonstration with musical performances and guests on Saturday, March 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"This is a show of support and solidarity with the striking Cowichan Valley transit workers," said a media release issued by the IWW Union,

The group will gather at the bus stop at Canada Avenue and Station Street at Charles Hoey Park.

Unifor Local 114 members voted unanimously for strike action starting on Feb. 8 to fight for access to pensions, living wages comparable to Victoria, appropriate washroom and break facilities for operators, and the Cowichan Valley Regional District to take over the contract from Transdev and to cease farming it out to the lowest bidder.

The release said United We Sing and other musical guests will perform.
