Things will be all aglow again this year, if the plans for the new Festival of Lights board go as hoped.
At the 35th annual general meeting of the volunteer group, discussions were held in regards to where Light Up can go with the expectations the Covid restrictions will no longer be a hindrance.
Chair Alex Cook congratulated the group for their dedicated spirit in continuing to put on the event with the pandemic restrictions. He commented on how proud members should be with the attention the town received in the past two years, even without the Light Up parade.
Cook, who was re-elected as chair for 2022, listed off a few items he believes can be done for 2022. The group is looking forward to having more “active” displays and potentially music.
An item of concern among the board was the need for more members.
“The support from the community is great when the lights need to be put up or taken down, but the ongoing stuff still needs to be looked after and if we’re to continue looking better each year, we need to have folks that are willing to step in,” Cook told the 25 people at the meeting.
The Festival committee meets the third Thursday of each month at the Festival building, on the corner of Christie Road and Fourth Avenue. The meetings start at 7:00 p.m. and everyone is welcome.
