The Town of Ladysmith is notifying the public of infrastructure work requiring the temporary closure of some Kinsmen Park trails, as well as the pedestrian access from Davidson Road. Closures are expected to start the week of March 14 and continue through early April.

“A private contractor is installing utilities, including a water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer for a new subdivision that extends from Malone Road on private property behind the park,” reads a news release from the town.

The removal of approximately six trees in Kinsmen Park is being completed this week in advance of the closure. The timeline for tree removal satisfies both the provincial and federal requirements for the protection of bird species and their nests, according to the town.

The town plans to retain the timbers for future parks projects benefiting the community. The developer will supply two trees for every one that is removed and the town will select the species and appropriate locations for planting.

Following the tree removal, the contractor will require the temporary closure of the path from Davidson Road as well as the trails leading into the forested area at the park.

The town said it does not expect this infrastructure work will impact other park amenities, including the recreational bike trails and storybook walk.
