Ladysmith church shows support for healthcare workers with a ‘care-a-van’

Theme for the procession was “praise not protest”

The Ladysmith United Church organized a “care-a-van,” which made its way around town on Sunday (Feb. 13).

Vehicles decorated in hearts and balloons could be seen driving by the Ladysmith Health Centre, Transfer Beach and downtown, honking horns to show support for healthcare workers.

The theme for the procession was “praise not protest,” according to Deb Hinksman, minister of Ladysmith United Church.

“This started early at the beginning of the pandemic when we were concerned a lot about our seniors that are in care homes and places [where they] couldn’t get out and couldn’t have people come to see them and then we thought about all the care worker,” she said. “They need to know that they haven’t been forgotten.”

She said this was about the sixth time the group has organized this kind of event since the start of the pandemic.
