Ladysmith residents will have a chance to tidy their yards and clear away seasonal debris during the town’s annual spring yard waste pickup, scheduled for May 12 to 16.

The curbside collection program is offered in partnership with Waste Connections and allows residents to set out up to 10 yard waste bags or reusable bins. Each receptacle must be no larger than 77 litres (17 gallons) and must weigh less than 20 kilograms (44 pounds).

Residents can also set out up to two bundles of sticks tied with cotton string. Each bundle must weigh less than 20 kilograms (44 pounds), be no longer than one metre (3 feet) in length, and no more than five centimetres (2 inches) in diameter.

Accepted materials include leaves, grass clippings, flowers, non-invasive plants, tree or hedge clippings and small branches up to five centimetres (2 inches) in diameter and 20 kilograms (44 pounds) in weight.

If rain is expected, residents are encouraged to place paper yard waste bags at the curb on the morning of pickup to help prevent bags from breaking down.

“This is a great opportunity for residents to tidy up their yards and keep our town looking beautiful while making the most of our convenient curbside service,” said Nicholas Pescod, the town’s communications and engagement specialist.

More information on the program is available at ladysmith.ca.
