The Ladysmith Resources Centre Association provides many supports through its seniors’ office during the pandemic.

The office gives information on many topics, including government benefits and forms; housing problems; applications for subsidized housing; referral processes and advance care planning.

“We always have lifeline coupons for seniors and have received information on free hearing aids for low-income seniors,” said Barbara Champagne, office manager, in a news release.

The centre does monthly call-outs to seniors and said people can contact the office if they want to be on the list.

Office staff will also help seniors to print their proof of vaccination. It can be done over the phone on Mondays or Tuesdays and you will need your Personal Health Care number and your vaccination record dates.

The LRCA provides transportation for seniors to Nanaimo or Duncan for medical appointments with 10–14 days notice. “Our helpful volunteers will get you from your home to your appointment and back again,” Champagne said. Anyone who needs this support can call 250-245-3079.

Income taxes are also done for seniors at the office. It also has a program where volunteers will take orders and do grocery shopping and delivery for seniors on Wednesday mornings.

All other seniors’ programs are on hold during the pandemic, according to Champagne.
