The Ladysmith Secondary School prom committee is asking community members for donations to help create a night to remember for its 115 graduating students. It is doing a grad sponsorship fundraiser to give contributors a chance to sponsor grads with different donation levels, ranging from $25–$500.

“We have such an amazing supportive community — I wanted to make sure we made something that’s reachable for everybody,” said Tracey Teneycke, whose son is part of the graduating class. She proposed the idea for the fundraiser and said the range in donation levels can make it easy for everyone from business owners to teenagers to donate.

The committee has a goal of raising between $25,000 and $30,000, she said. The money will be used for a venue, catering and other expenses to host a dinner for grads on prom night.

“I really appreciate all of the community support,” Teneycke said. “I have been a long time teacher in the community and every time I have put something on the Around Town Ladysmith [Facebook group] asking for donations or support for our classrooms, everybody pulls through and makes it happen, so I know that this will be just one more of those events that everybody participated in and helps make it a success.”

The theme of the fundraiser is “sponsor a grad, feed a grad,” she said. All sponsors will be recognized by their level of sponsorship both at the table level and on display at the event centre, according to the committee. It will also acknowledge all sponsors publicly on its social media platforms.

The options for sponsorship are: $25 for copper level; $50 for bronze; $100 for silver; $250 for gold and $500 for platinum. Anybody who would like to make a donation can contact Teneycke for more information and to arrange payment at tteneycke@shaw.ca.
