The Ladysmith Cinnamon Bun Fun Run will happen virtually this year. It is a five km run/walk and 10 km run presented by the Ladysmith Resources Centre Association (LRCA).

This year, it will be a virtual charity event to promote healthy outdoor family activity before the holiday season. It will also provide some much-needed resources to the LRCA and its many programs, the organization said.

Registration is $10 for adults (13 and over) and $5 for children (12 and under). All proceeds benefit the LRCA.

“We, unfortunately, cannot operate a predicted finishing time for participants this year like in years past, but we anticipate runners and walkers will enjoy getting outside with family, engaging in some exercise and enjoying some delicious treats,” said Rick Rake, LRCA manager of communications and events.

All participants will receive a limited-edition Cinnamon Bun Fun Run cookie from the Old Town Bakery in Ladysmith.

“We thank you in advance as we aim to make this an enjoyable virtual family event that ensures the health and safety of Cinnamon Bun Fun Run participants and our volunteers, while also raising awareness and resources for the LRCA,” reads a news release from the organization.

Participants can choose their own start time and date for the event but must complete the event virtually before Nov. 28. The LRCA will make the traditional run’s route available to the public for anyone who wants to stick to tradition, but participants may choose their own route for the walk/run.

A maximum of 600 registrants can participate — the LRCA said the event sold out quickly in previous years. It reminded participants to track their run or walk with a device and save a screenshot to upload to the Race Roster results.

“Once you have uploaded your results then you are ready to nab some cinnamon bun cookies,” the news release said. The results can be uploaded between Nov. 25 – 28.

Cookies will be available from Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting on Nov. 29 at the lower parking lot entrance to the LRCA building.

Race registration opens at 1 p.m. on Oct. 20.
