North Cowichan is developing a new community-amenity contribution policy and is seeking input from the public.
Community-amenity contributions are cash or in-kind contributions provided by developers to fund amenities that will benefit the broader community and are negotiated as a condition of rezoning.
The policy outlines development-paid contributions toward short-term infrastructure and towards affordable housing projects.
This policy will be an interim one and will be in effect until the development-cost charges bylaw is updated and put into effect in 2026.
Development cost charges cover a broad range of costs incurred through development including water and sewer servicing, roads, and public amenities such as parks and trails.
A survey will be open until April 13, and planning staff will be meeting with a cross-section of developers with active projects in North Cowichan.
A report outlining the feedback heard will be shared with council and the Economic Development Committee later this spring before the final policy is adopted.
