The sun shone brightly on the players who drew the morning games at Evans Park as part of the 25th annual Cody Classic ball tournament in 2023.

This year is the 26th annual Cody Classic, which raises money for Cowichan Valley families facing childhood cancer.

In 1999, after Wes Swain’s four-year-old son Cody was diagnosed with cancer, the folks Wes played ball with held a small tournament to raise money for the family. It meant so much to the Swains that they kept the tournament going — for more than two decades now.

Cody Swain is now 30 and is a UBC graduate but still, the tournament goes on as there are other families in the area that could use the same help the Swains did all those years ago.

The tournament runs Sept. 6-8 at Waldon Park in Glenora and Evans Park in North Cowichan.
