First-time champion takes Mount Brenton Men's Club title

Kathy Matilpi defended her Ladies Division title

The Mount Brenton Golf Course's club championships were held July 20-21.

"It was a wonderful weekend for golf and we had a fabulous finish for the Men’s Club Championship," club captain Kevin Mills said.

A three-way tie at the end resulted in a one-hole playoff between first-time competitor Colin McDougall and two past champions Dave Bigelow and Barry Casparie.

"It came down to Colin making a 10-foot putt for bird and the championship and he didn’t disappoint the 30 onlookers who walked the OT hole with them," Mills said. "Colin McDougall will have his name added to the Men’s Mount Brenton Club Champion Trophy."

On the ladies side, Kathy Matilpi defended her Ladies Division title with another championship this year.

"That was no surprise," Mills noted, as she's been tough to beat. Brian Aaberg also successfully defended his title as Super Senior Champion again.

Moving to the Senior Division this year for the first time, Ross Cormac has started his campaign to start populating his name on the Senior trophy as he has done with the Men’s trophy over the years.

Of note, Larry LaJeunesse won the Men’s low net, Starr Adams took the Ladies low net, Bruce Hansen had the Senior Men’s low net and Ted Kennedy had the Super Senior Men’s low Net.

Mills said honourable mentions went to Dar Mitchell for coming in second in low gross and Grace Pedy for her second in low net in the Ladies Division.

Honourable mentions also went to Bigelow and Casparie for placing second in low gross and Dawson Bell for his second low net in the Men’s Division.

James Cricket also received an honourable mention for placing second in low gross and Randy Pauls for his second in the low net in the Senior Men’s Division.

Honourable mentions also went to Richard Redfern for coming in second in low gross and Steve McConkey for his second in low net in the Super Senior Men’s Division.

"I want to make sure we thank Jody, Ken, Earl, Kath and Heather for helping out, it wouldn’t be a success without these generous folks. The pro shop was fabulous and the food and service was great," Mills noted adding that the 50/50 winning ticket number is 5223 for $317 with the other $317 going to the juniors program. The winning-ticket holder can pick up their prize at the pro shop.
