Islanders drop third straight in lone weekend game

Kerry Park looks to turn it around

With a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings, the Kerry Park Islanders lost their third game in a row on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The Isles got out of the gate early with Carson Brown netting his fourth in five games and Jacob Morrison scoring his third. The Islanders took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission but were unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game while allowing three goals against.

"I thought we had a great first period," said head coach Jake Ebner. "We executed our game plan early on but it got away from us and it cost us two points. We will be focusing on certain areas to prepare for next Saturday, but we need to understand the importance of playing a full 60 minutes."

The Islanders wrap up their September schedule with a home game against the Saanich Predators on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Kerry Park Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

"I believe in this group and Saanich will be a good test for us to get back in the right direction," Ebner said.

In other VIJHL news, the Lake Cowichan Kraken are still looking for their first win under new head coach Rich Chernomaz. The Kraken have played two home games and four on the road and been on the short end of the score board in all six, including losing two straight to the Port Alberni Bombers by a combined 18-7 score.

The Kraken play host to the Victoria Cougars on Friday, Sept. 27. The game gets underway at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena at 7:30 p.m.
