Two games, two wins, and 17 goals were the numbers the Kerry Park Islanders could boast after another successful weekend. On Friday, Feb. 7, the Islanders visited the Peninsula Panthers at Panorama Recreation Centre and, while it took a bit to get going, once they did they didn't stop.
Kerry Park opened the scoring close to the midway point of the second period on two goals in quick succession from Nate Grinevitch and Kyler Smith.
The team held the lead through the period and added to it 53 seconds into the third on Brody Lindal's 30th goal of the year.
Between power-play goals from Peninsula, Eric Stinson gave the Isles their fourth of the night to give his team a two-goal lead.
An empty netter from Carson Brown and a goal with 30 seconds left from Rylan Davis doubled the lead, and backed by goalie Ethan Taylor, who stopped 28 of 30 shots, Kerry Park earned the 6-2 victory.
The next night at Kerry Park Arena against the Nanaimo Buccaneers, the Islanders continued their offensive dominance, spreading 11 goals between eight different scorers.
Ben Stocks led the way with a hat-trick while Bryce Burnett added a pair. Singles were scored by Stinson, Brown, Smith, Lindal, Grinevitch, and Reegan Kominko.
Cater Puska got the win in goal, saving 31 of 34 shots.
It was the first weekend of play for three new Islanders as the team welcomed defender Caige Starr, and forwards Raydon Parkes and Reegan Kominko into the fold.
"More size! More grit! And more scoring have arrived in KP to further bolster an already on fire league leading roster," said the team.
Head coach Jake Ebner later explained that some of their players had moved to the BCHL and AJHL, and given the trade deadline hasn't passed, they were able to fill the roster spots with another infusion of talent. The new personnel had no negative impact on team chemistry, as proven by 17 goals in two games.
"We have a really good group and it makes it easy for new players to fit in and allows new players to be themselves and play comfortably," he said.
