The Cowichan peewee Bulldogs have hit the ground running this season, with two wins in their first two games.

Atom

The Atom Bulldogs played host to Westshore on April 12 at McAdam Park and had a great battle, said head coach Tyler Gavin.

"We lost 32-20 but showed amazing improvement," said the coach.

Offensively, Carter Thorne pounded the ball for big gains while Jacob Whittet and Caleb Heyne had key blocks.

Defensively Teagan Hale, Oliver Cherriere and Sawyer Van Maanen rallied to the ball with big stops and tackles.

The Atom Bulldogs have a bye next weekend.

Peewee

Peewee Bulldogs had a home game against the Oceanside Lions on Saturday and won 36-8.

The team plays Oceanside on April 19 at McAdam Park. Kickoff is 11 a.m.

Westshore visited McAdam Park on Saturday and stole a 27-8 win from the JB Bulldogs.

"We struggled in the first half but won the second half, only allowing a field goal and scoring our only touchdown of the game," said head coach Opie Williams. "But Westshore was able to score 3 TD in the first."

Despite the loss, some standouts included Otto Teuful, who led the defence with two solo tackles and three assists, Justin Jack-Thomas, who made three solo tackles, and Kalem Thomas had one solo and six assists.

Charlie Freeman also played well, leading the offence with three receptions. Eli Atchison had another great game with 11 carries for 64 overall yards and the team's only touchdown. He also had a sack on defence.

Williams is taking responsibility for the loss, saying he didn't adequately prepare the team.

"We will go into next week's game ready and firing on all cylinders," he said.

The JB team plays host to Oceanside at McAdam Park on April 19 for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff.
