The Nanaimo Hiring and Post-Secondary Education Expo returns Thursday, May 29, offering job seekers, students and career changers a free opportunity to connect directly with employers and educational institutions.

Hosted by Black Press Events, the expo runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Country Club Centre, 3200 North Island Hwy. Admission and parking are free.

Attendees will have the chance to meet face-to-face with recruiters from a wide range of industries, including health care, trades, technology, retail and government. Post-secondary institutions will also be on hand to discuss programs and training options.

“This is a great chance to explore new career paths, ask questions and even interview on the spot,” says events manager Felicia Galea. “We’ve designed the expo to be accessible and informative for everyone, from recent grads to experienced professionals.”

WorkBC Assistive Technology Services will be among the exhibitors, offering information on ergonomic tools, wage subsidies and hiring supports for people with disabilities.

The event is part of a province-wide series of expos aimed at bridging the gap between employers and job seekers. According to Black Press Events, more than half of attendees are currently employed but looking for new opportunities, and 60 per cent have post-secondary education.

“Whether you’re looking to retrain, switch industries or find your first job, this expo is a valuable resource,” Galea says. “We encourage everyone to bring updated résumés and dress to impress - you never know who you’ll meet.”
