A dozen schools in Nanaimo-Ladysmith closed due to power outages

After a wind storm caused outages across Nanaimo yesterday, a number of Nanaimo-Ladysmith schools remain without power, prompting the district to close them for the day, Dec. 21.

Cedar, Departure Bay, Fairview, Gabriola, École Hammond Bay, École North Oyster, Uplands Park, Rock City elementary schools, Ladysmith Primary and Cedar, Wellington and Ladysmith Secondary schools will be closed for the day, according to Dale Burgos, school district spokesman.

In addition, due to the debris, downed power lines and road blockages, school buses are also cancelled.
