Two people were taken to hospital following an accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle south of Chemainus Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred on Chemainus Road, just north of Ashcroft Road around 3 p.m.

“The driver of the car was transported by ambulance to hospital for minor injuries,” noted Cpl. Alex Berube, RCMP media relations officer for the Island district. “The rider of the motorcycle was airlifted to hospital for further assessment.”

The accident is under investigation.

“Three paramedic ground crews responded along with a helicopter,” added Cindy Leong, BC Emergency Health Services communications officer.

A rescue truck and engine from North Cowichan’s Chemainus hall responded to the incident.

“A BC Ambulance Service medivac helicopter landed at the Fuller Lake (Arena) parking lot landing zone, set up by firefighters, to transport to hospital,” noted Martin Drakeley, Municipality of North Cowichan fire chief.

Traffic along Chemainus Road came to a standstill in both directions while emergency personnel tended to the injured.
