BC Transit to hand out face coverings in the Cowichan Valley

Masks will be mandatory for BC Transit passengers beginning August 24

In light of the implementation of BC Transit’s mandatory face covering policy, BC Transit and the Cowichan Valley Regional District will be handing out masks on Aug. 20 in the Cowichan Valley Regional Transit System.

Beginning Aug. 24, all BC Transit passengers will be required to wear face coverings unless they meet exclusion criteria.

Exemptions for BC Transit’s mandatory face covering policy include:

• Anyone with an underlying medical condition or disability which inhibits the ability to wear a mask or face covering;

•Persons unable to place or remove a mask or face covering without assistance;

• Children under five years of age;

• Employees working behind a physical barrier or within areas designated for employees and not for public access; and

• Police, employees, or first responders in an emergency situation.

Masks will be handed out at London Drugs at Village Green Mall on Aug. 20 from 9 a.m.-10 a.m., and 3 p.m.-4 p.m.

Face coverings will also be handed out by 49th Parallel in Ladysmith, the Town of Ladysmith, Cowichan Lake Community Services, the CVRD, Galleto’s Market, and the Walmart Lotto Centre. The masks will be handed out upon request while supplies last.
