Biker lands on ledge

A middle-aged man biking the trails near Christie Falls fell 50 ft. onto a ledge, hurting his knee.

“The guy lost his footing and fell down to the ledge below,” Ladysmith Fire Chief, Ray Delcourt said.

The man was with a group touring the area about a kilometre from the Bush Creek Fish Hatchery on Christie Road.

“We had to go in with a basket stretcher,” explained Delcourt, “and then quad him out.”

Delcourt said the rescue took about two hours and fire rescue worked with the provincial emergency program.

Delcourt said the incident was very scary.

“If he went over the ledge there was another 75 ft. to go,” he said. “It would’ve been a different story.”

Delcourt said it was also lucky the man didn’t fall head first.

The incident happened Saturday, April 16.
