A cabin was razed and a man taken to hospital after a rural area blaze near Ladysmith Friday night.
North Cedar Fire Department, assisted by Cranberry Volunteer Fire Department, responded to a cabin-shop fire on the 2200 block of Holden Corso Road at 8:32 p.m. Dec. 17, Justin Gueulette, North Cedar deputy fire chief, said.
“We got called to a working structure fire, so when we arrived on scene it was fully involved,” said Gueulette. “One person got transported by [B.C. Ambulance Service] with some burns.”
Twenty-five members were on scene, said Gueulette, and they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring structures.
“The structure was fully involved and we had exposures, neighbouring shop and residence next door, that we protected,” Gueulette said. “Crews were able to hold the fire.”
The man was believed to have suffered burns to his legs and the investigation is ongoing, said Gueulette. The fire was extinguished by 11:40 p.m., he said.
