North Cowichan has extended an invite to key community stakeholders and property owners in the immediate project area for an information session on the Chemainus Road corridor upgrade.
The meeting will take place Tuesday, August 13 from 5-7 p.m. at the Chemainus 55+ Activity Centre, 9824 Willow Street. North Cowichan staff will be on hand to answer questions and gather feedback on traffic detours, constructions times, parking issues, streetscaping and transportation challenges.
A brief presentation on the project will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by audience questions.
Only a limited number of people can fit into the lower level of the activity centre so the meeting at this stage is focused mainly on residents and businesses within the affected area of the project, according to Natasha Horsman, North Cowichan’s manager of communications and public engagement.

North Cowichan is upgrading the portion of Chemainus Road between Henry Road and Victoria Street in order to improve the accessibility and safety of the arterial road.
The upgrade will include: a roundabout at River Road and Chemainus Road; a storm water, sewer and water utilities upgrade; road widening; cycling lanes and streetscape improvements as part of the ongoing downtown revitalization work occurring under the Chemainus Town Centre Revitalization Plan (2011).
The upgrades are scheduled to begin in the fall with underground utility work. Road construction will occur next spring, with estimated completion in the fall of 2020.
