The Cowichan Valley Regional District has announced scheduling updates related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All CVRD recreation and community centre programming has now been cancelled through April 30, and all scheduled events at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre up to May 31 have been postponed.

Blood donor clinics put on by Canadian Blood Services will go on as scheduled, at the Cowichan Community Centre on April 14-16, and at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre on April 20. Potential donors need to make an appointment ahead of time, which can be done online at blood.ca, on the GiveBlood app, or by calling 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283).

CVRD recycling centres remain open with winter hours and visitor restrictions, and will continue to accept yard waste free of charge. The facilities have seen increases in visitors in recent weeks, leading to long wait times, so the public is asked to refrain from visiting recycling centres unless it is absolutely necessary.

The regional district also reminded the public that the Cowichan Valley is subject to a provincial order banning open burning until April 15.

“Cowichan residents are also encouraged to familiarize themselves and follow all other provincial public health orders, like physical distancing requirements, when they are in public spaces including regional parks and trails,” The CVRD said in a release. “Failure to comply to with provincial emergency orders at this time can carry fines and potential jail time.
