Cyclocross riders test skill on Transfer Beach course

Hundreds of ‘cyclocross’ riders converged on Ladysmith’s Transfer Beach Park Sept. 27

Hundreds of ‘cyclocross’ riders converged on Ladysmith’s Transfer Beach Park Sept. 27 to pit themselves against the ups, downs, ins and outs of the Tugboat Cross.

The park was zigzagged with a staked out trail that covered just about every square foot of ground, including legs into the Amphitheatre and along the beach.

“The course has fantastic views of the Ladysmith harbour in addition to twisty tree sections, pebbly and sandy sections, punchy, grassy climbs, swift pavement sections and last but not least, the new secret addition, ‘the stairs of despair’,” said a description emailed to riders in the run-up to the event.

Competitors in the novice to expert classes of Cross on the Rock were not disappointed, as they ground up the hills, whizzed down them, and kicked up ‘rooster tails’ in the sand.

See a video of the event on the Ladysmith Chronicle Facebook page or go to www.crossontherock.com for more information about the event.
